Senior Manager, Corporate Membership
The Senior Manager, Corporate Membership will lead and elevate Chatham House’s corporate membership and help drive growth across the institute’s corporate fundraising activities. Sitting within the Corporate Fundraising team and reporting to the Head of Corporate Fundraising, the role will oversee a small corporate membership team with direct responsibility and account management of a high value portfolio of major corporate partners and members.
You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing Chatham House’s corporate membership offering across all tiers, ensuring it remains competitive, attractive and aligned to the needs of our members. You will develop and steward high-value corporate relationships, secure new funding opportunities and contribute to the wider fundraising financial targets across membership, research, events, briefings and strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Chatham House’s corporate membership portfolio, ensuring the membership offering remains competitive and attractive while driving retention and acquisition.
Review and improve membership processes, benefits and engagement opportunities to enhance the member experience and maximise value.
Support the delivery of the Corporate Fundraising Strategy, working with colleagues and the Head on how to deliver ambitious targets.
Cultivate relationships with prospective partners and develop high-quality, compelling proposals that convert into six-figure, multi-year partnerships, particularly around membership, briefings and speaker engagement opportunities.
Drive engagement with existing members, identifying opportunities to deepen relationships, increase support and grow membership income.
Directly account manage, grow and increase spend across a portfolio of major corporate members, ensuring excellent stewardship, renewals and long-term relationship development.
Oversee all membership tiers to ensure the long-term success of Chatham House’s corporate membership portfolio and to deliver against income targets, including NGO, Embassy and Standard Corporate Members managed by members within the team.
Deliver new business income and identify opportunities to upsell and engage members and prospects across the wider range of corporate fundraising activities, including sponsored events and bespoke partnerships.
Provide expert advice and guidance to research programmes on corporate engagement, proposal development and pricing.
Develop tailored partnership proposals and funding opportunities that align with organisational priorities and partner objectives.
Represent Chatham House membership externally at meetings, events and partnership discussions, including supporting contract negotiations where appropriate.
Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team, focused on growing corporate support and delivering against fundraising objectives.
Collaborate with colleagues across Chatham House to support a "One Chatham House" approach and maximise opportunities for partner engagement.
Work closely with Events Programming colleagues to ensure the institute’s events and engagement opportunities remain attractive to current and prospective corporate members.
Work collaboratively with new business and sponsored events colleagues to achieve Corporate Fundraising Team financial targets.
Accountable for budgets, contracts, invoicing and financial reporting to ensure effective management of Chatham House corporate membership income.
Support the integration of Chatham House’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) commitments within team objectives and ways of working.
Person Specification
Essential
Proven experience in corporate fundraising, corporate membership, business development or strategic partnership management.
Demonstrable track record of securing and managing high-value corporate partnerships, including six-figure funding agreements.
Strong relationship management skills, with experience cultivating and stewarding senior corporate stakeholders and decision-makers.
Experience delivering ambitious income targets and developing new business opportunities.
Excellent proposal writing, presentation and negotiation skills.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how to create value for corporate partners.
Ability to identify opportunities for account growth, member retention and long-term partnership development.
Experience managing, mentoring or developing staff within a fundraising, membership or business development environment.
Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the credibility to represent Chatham House internally and externally.
Sound understanding of global policy, political and economic issues and an interest in the work of Chatham House.
Desirable
Experience managing a corporate membership programme within a membership organisation, think tank, policy institute or international affairs environment.
Knowledge of corporate engagement and fundraising best practice within the not-for-profit or policy sector.
Experience working with CRM systems and membership management platforms.
