Business Development Manager (Corporate)

Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is a world leading, independent policy institute based in London. As a global think tank, our mission is to help build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world.
The Corporate Relations team supports the Institute’s mission, by generating unrestricted income from the private sector, to help ensure its continued financial sustainability. The team manage relationships with over 330 Partners and corporate members, which includes multi-national businesses, government departments and NGOs.

Principal Responsibilities:
Delivery
- Lead business development and new business activity for corporate income generation, including corporate membership.
- Work with colleagues across the organisation, to identify and develop a pipeline of companies with which Chatham House could develop six-figure partnerships. These partnerships could include sponsorship for our flagship conferences, programmatic support of our research programmes or income to support specific research projects.
- Develop business development plans, lead new business outreach and manage the sales pipeline.
- Take new business meetings, either in-person or virtual, and represent the Institute in these meetings with senior stakeholders.
- Respond to incoming enquiries from corporate prospects received by phone, email, Chatham House website, or in person.
- Assist in setting up meetings for the CEO and COO, with potential new Partners, at large external events including The World Economic Forum in DAVOS and the Munich Security Conference.
- Ensure that all account records on the CRM are up-to-date and responsible for their updating and accuracy.
- Develop a working knowledge of GDPR and ensure that all data processing follows the highest standards of compliance.
People
- Attend and network at relevant internal receptions and external events to develop new contacts.
- Work collaboratively with the Events teams by inputting ideas into corporate breakfasts, other member events and receptions.
- Build excellent relationships with colleagues across the house including the Director's Office and research programmes.
- Encourage and support the development of others in the team and the wider department.
- Engage in and contribute to Chatham House as a learning organisation and to its positive culture.
- Assist in creating a positive and supportive team culture that continually strives for improvement through training and development and promotes psychological safety.
Strategy
- Drive new business for corporate income generation, programmatic research support and other commercial offerings.
- Work with colleagues across the fundraising and partnerships department to develop, implement and evolve business development strategies, aimed at hitting stretching targets and supporting the strategic fundraising goals of the organisation.
- Build contacts and gather intelligence aimed at informing the Institute’s understanding of the corporate sector, funding environment and the opportunities for engagement.
- Actively contribute to the delivery of the Chatham House EDI strategy.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Qualities:
- Target driven, highly motivated and able to work calmly, quickly and accurately in a pressurised environment;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to build positive relationships;
- Work as part of a team and individuals at all levels displaying tact, sensitivity and diplomacy;
- Knowledge of the GDPR;
- Computer proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics or other CRM databases.

Benefits include approximately 37 days annual leave (including public holidays and Chatham House closure days), pension salary exchange, employee assistance programme, parental leave, flexible working and other benefits designed to suit your lifestyle. Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 per year. Please note that £55,000 is the maximum we will offer for this role, dependent on experience.
Contract: Full-time, Permanent.
Location: Hybrid (Office/Home), minimum 2 days in the office per week.
